Welcome to Colona!

If you are interested in starting a business in Colona or moving your business to Colona, you are encouraged to contact City Hall for full instructions, at 309-792-0571.  Generally you'll be requested to complete a business license form, pay $50 registration fee, provide an Illinois registration certificate, certificate of insurance and be presented for approval before the City Counsel.  Upon Approval an official business License good through February of the following year will be created, signed by the City Clerk and Mayor and presented to the business which shall be held by the business in a location that can be presented upon request by city officials for verification.

Basic Information

• A business license is required to do business in Colona even if you have a home based business.  There is a one-time fee of $50 for the license so long as annual renewal processes are followed by February 1 with updated information on file..

• Building permits are required for new commercial and industrial buildings and certain types of remodeling.  Inspections are required for building/occupancy, electrical, mechanical and plumbing.  for more information, click here.  To review the City's Zoning Ordinance, click here.

• A license is required for contractors to do work in the city of Colona.  The annual fee is $50 and the license is good for the calendar year (January through December).
