Building Permits are Required For:

No one shall receive a building permit to erect/construct any type of building or addition

unless these conditions are met and reviewed by the City of Colona's Building Inspector/Zoning Officer.

  1. Most set backs are 10 feet rear and 6 feet side.
  2. Property pins are visible for inspectors.
  3. Plans and drawings of new buildings with properly engineered stamped trusses.
  4. No one shall start any type of construction/footing without first securing a building permit.
  5. All electrical, plumbing, mechanical or roofing work must be done by a licensed professional unless work is being done by the homeowner (excluding rental properties).
  6. Professional contractors must have a license to do business in the City of Colona and provide proof of insurance and bond. (2010)  See the link below for the Contractor License Application.

 

Building Permit Fees

Building permit fees are to be doubled when a building permit has not been acquired by noon on the first day of construction.  The property owner shall be directly liable for such permit costs.

Submit completed license and permits with appropriate fees at City Hall, 100 E 9th Ave, Colona, IL between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Or you may email forms and submit online payment.

The City of Colona offers the convenience of accepting Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit cards for licenses and permit fees. Inspections

The city inspectors are part-time and require a minimum of 48 hours notice for inspections.

 

Adoption of New Building Codes

The City of Colona adopted new building code ordinances at their February 10, 2014 meeting.  These ordinances apply primarily to new construction and remodeling projects.  For more information, contact the Public Works Director or one of the City's Building Inspectors.

Enforcement of the Building Code Ordinance (Title 9, Chpt. 1, Section 4A) was amended January 10, 2011 as follows:

The International Building Code shall be enforced by the Building Inspector and/or the Public Works Director.
