Colona Business License Options
Businesses License
- Every business operating in the City of Colona, even Home-Based ones, must have and maintain a current City Business License.
- Home-based businesses are asked to fill out this Questionnaire when turning in their paperwork.
- Complete the Business License Application and submit it to City Hall along with your Certificate of Insurance and all other necessary paperwork.
- The application will then be taken to the next City Council meeting for approval.
- Once approved, the initial license fee is $50. This can be Paid Online or in person at City Hall.
- Annual registration is required after a City Business License has been issued.
- There is NO fee for annual registration if renewal takes place before February 1 of the following year.
Liquor License
Anyone wishing to sell or offer alcoholic liquor for sale within the City of Colona must obtain a City Liquor License and Business License before doing so.
Application & Approval Process
Submit the completed Liquor License Application and required information to City Hall.
The application will be investigated and reviewed by the the Local Liquor Control Commissioner.
The Commissioner may examine the applicant and relevant records as permitted by law.
If the applicant meets all requirements, the license may be approved with the consent of a majority of the City Council.
The applicable license fee must be paid before the license is issued.
Mobile / Vendor Merchant License
- Definition: Any person, the nature of whose business activity indicates retail sales from a mobile unit and the intent to remain in business in the city for less than one year.
- Every vender merchant business operating in the City of Colona must have a current Vendor Merchant License and Business License during their time of operation(s).
- Complete the Vendor Merchant License Application and submit it to City Hall along with your
- Certificate of Insurance for all vehicles used in the operation of the business
- Copies of any written agreements between the vendor and the owner of the location where the vendor conducts his business
- The application will then be taken to the next City Council meeting for approval.
Peddlers / Solicitors License
- Sale or solicitation of sales done from house to house requires a special license which is issued at City Hall.
- Complete the Peddler's/Solicitor's License Application and submit it to City Hall along with other necessary documents.
- There is a fee of $20 per day per solicitor per organization for a Solicitor's Permit.

Raffle / Poker Run License
- Organizations wishing to conduct a raffle or poker run within the City of Colona must obtain a Raffle / Poker Run License.
- Complete the Raffle / Poker Run License Application and submit it to City Hall along with other necessary documents.
- Completing an application does not guarantee approval or issuance of a license.
- The City Clerk may take up to 30 days from the date of application to approve or deny a license.
- A raffle or poker run license may not be valid for more than 12 months, depending on the license class.
- Raffle chances or poker run entries may not cost more than $250 each.
- The event must be conducted according to the terms of the City-issued license and applicable Illinois law.
- Within 30 days after each raffle drawing or poker run, the licensee must submit a report to the City Clerk showing gross receipts, expenses, and net proceeds, including the payee, purpose, amount, and date of each payment.
Video Gaming License
- Complete the Video Gaming License Application and submit it to City Hall along with other necessary documents.
- All establishments must have a current Business and Liquor license.
- There is a $250 fee for each gaming machine in the establishment.
- Currently 7/10 Video Gaming Licenses are spoken for.
