License/Pet Tags

  • No dog or cat shall be permitted to be or remain in the city without being licensed.
  • Every owner or person keeping a dog or cat within the city must annually register the animal within 30 days after May 1 with the Colona Police Department.
  • A license tag is required for each dog or cat.  The fee is $5 per license for spayed or neutered pets; $10 per license tag for pets not spayed or neutered.. 
  • Pet tags are available at the Colona Police Department (215 1st Street) during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:00 pm).
  • Bring a copy of your pet's current rabies vaccination certificate with you and documentation from your veterinarian if your pet has been spayed or neutered..
  • Dogs or cats over the age of 4 months are required to wear a collar and have their license tags attached to the collar.

Other Animal Control Ordinances

  • There can be no more than 4 dogs, 4 cats or a combination of four at one residence. No dogs or cats are permitted to run at large within the city unless they are on a leash or confined on the owner's or keeper's premises.
  • Dogs or cats found to be running at large will be declared a public nuisance and may be taken and impounded by the Animal Control Officer.
  • Each dog or cat is required to be inoculated by a licensed veterinarian for rabies and the rabies inoculation must be kept current.
  • Animal waste deposited  on public property or private property without the owner's permission must be immediately removed and properly disposed of by the keeper or owner of the animal.
  • All animal bites on a human being should be immediately reported to the Colona Police Department.
  • Dogs may not be kenneled or tied up in the front yards of residences.
  • Any dog or cat that unduly disturbs the quiet of a neighborhood shall be declared a nuisance.

Additional ordinances related to "Animal Control" may be viewed at City Hall (100 East 9th Avenue or the Colona Police Department (215 1st Street) during regular business hours.  City Hall hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm and the Colona Police Department's hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.
