Tourism

The City of Colona is home to the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park, the Green Rock Memorial Bike Path, a winery operation, a campground/RV park and a private sportsman's park.

Parks

Colona has ten parks within the city limits for residents' enjoyment.  The city owns and maintains eight parks and in addition leases and maintains the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).  The city also maintains the Green Rock Memorial Bike Path.  The Hennepin Canal State Parkway has pavilions available to rent, permanent restrooms, park benches, a gazebo and horseshoe pits.

  • Greenwood Park; Located off Poppy Garden Road in Greenwood subdivision on Ash Drive. Has park equipment and a pavilion.
  • Old Colona Park; Near Water and Warren Streets along the Hennepin Canal State Parkway (east of IL 84 and south of Cleveland Road).  Has park equipment and a pavilion.
  • Sullivan Park; In the Level Acres subdivision off of Poppy Garden Road; parking lot can be accessed off of Avon Drive. Small practice ball diamond and park equipment.
  • Timbrook Field; At the end of the Canal Road along the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park, just before the boat ramp into the Rock River. Ball diamond (with lights), concession stand, restroom and swing set.
  • Ty Massey Memorial Ball Diamond; Along the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park at 5th Street. Ball diamond with playground area, basketball court, tennis court, restroom and drinking fountain.
  • Colona Memorial Park; On IL 84 and south of Cleveland Road. Has a garden, parking and benches for sitting. Established by the Colona Civic Development Group.
  • W. Gerard Huiskamp Family Park in Stonebridge Crossing subdivision.  Playground, soccer nets, basketball court, ball diamond and pavilion.
  • Colona's Scott Family Park  Playground, picnic facilities, pond, and seasonal swimming pool.  Rental facilities for events: Clubhouse and Pavilion.  Lodging facilities for rent: a farmhouse with two condo units and cabins.

The Colona Park District was disbanded. When we know who will be responsible for this park we will note it.  

  • Gailliaert's Park; On 122 Colona Road behind the IL 84 water tower.  Ball diamond, concession stand, restrooms, pavilion, basketball court and playground equipment.
